Psychiatry is the branch of medicine focused on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mental, emotional and behavioral disorders. A psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) is an advanced practice nurse who specializes in mental health, including substance use disorders. PMHNPs are qualified to assess, diagnose, and treat these disorders using psychotherapy, medications, and other interventions.
Telepsychiatry is the process of providing health care from a distance using technology like videoconferencing. Video-based telepsychiatry helps meet patients’ needs for convenient, and readily-accessible behavioral health services. We deliver care through a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform. Robust evidence has demonstrated that telepsychiatry leads to improved clinical outcomes and high levels of patient satisfaction.
At this time, High Sierra Behavioral Health does not offer stand-alone psychotherapy services. We encourage those who seek only therapy to obtain services from the professional discipline and school of therapy they feel best suits their needs. We frequently provide brief psychotherapy as an add-on to medication management services as adjunctive treatment modalities are often necessary in addition to pharmacological management.
Collaboration between healthcare providers is vital to clients' health. Please be prepared to provide recent records (within the last 12 months) of a physical exam by a primary care provider and any pertinent laboratory testing results. Additionally, clients may also be asked to provide consent to obtain health records from their primary care provider and any relevant specialists in order to ensure well-coordinated care.
